Compare the 2025 INFINITI QX55 to the Competition

2025 INFINITI QX55 vs the Competition

The QX55 is a variation of the QX50, with the roof reshaped from a wagon design into a coupe style. The glass-half-empty crowd would describe this crossover coupe as an SUV with less “U” (meaning less utility) because of the sloping roof that reduces cargo space. Meanwhile, the glass-half-full folks would see this as a sleek sports sedan with enhanced utility, featuring a large hatch for easier loading and unloading, all-wheel drive (AWD) to optimize traction, and a raised ride height for traversing deep snow or rough unpaved roads. If you already have another form of cargo hauler in the household, this model provides all the advantages of a luxury crossover in a sportier package.

Mechanically, the QX55 is nearly identical to the QX50. It features the same interior and is powered by the same 2.0-liter Variable Compression turbo inline-four engine that produces 268 horsepower. Starting at the Luxe trim level, the QX55 offers a higher starting equipment specification than the QX50, and all QX55 models come with standard AWD.

2025 INFINITI QX55 vs Acura RDX

The RDX is a conventionally shaped crossover that emphasizes sporty dynamics. When it emerged in 2007, it and the BMW X3 were the first luxury compact crossovers. While Acura designed the initial RDX to be the sportiest crossover on the market, the second model was larger, softer, and featured a more conventional V6, which boosted sales. In 2019, the current third-generation model reverted to the first sporty model’s positioning, including a return to the standard torque-vectoring Super Handling All-Wheel Drive and turbocharged inline-four, although it retained the larger size of the second model.

  • The RDX with A-Spec Package has a starting MSRP of $50,300, which is effectively the same as the QX55 Luxe’s starting MSRP of $50,150.
  • With similarly sized turbocharged engines, both models offer comparable horsepower at 268 versus 272 and the same peak torque of 280 lb-ft at 1,600 rpm.
  • Both models have standard AWD systems.
  • The Variable Compression technology, combined with a continuously variable transmission, provides the QX55 with an edge in city, highway, and overall fuel efficiency (22/28/25 vs. 21/27/23 mpg).
  • The RDX wagon shape clearly gives it an advantage in cargo capacity. However, unless the items are tall, the QX55 performs comparably, with a seats-up cargo volume of 26.9 versus 29.5 cubic feet and a seats-down capacity of 54.1 versus 58.9 cubic feet.
  • Although nearly identical in length (15-feet 6-inches vs. 15-feet 7-inches), the QX55 has a wider stance (7-feet 1-inch vs. 6-feet 2-inches) and a longer wheelbase (9-feet 2-inches vs. 9-feet).
  • The QX55 boasts a higher minimum ground clearance of 8.6 inches compared to 8.2 inches.
  • For improved maneuverability, the QX55 features a shorter turning circle (36.4 vs. 38.9 feet).
  • The QX55 provides slightly greater rear legroom (38.7 vs. 38.0 inches), nearly identical shoulder room (57.1 vs. 57.0 inches), and significantly more second-row hip room (53.8 vs. 50.0 inches).

INFINITI QX55 vs Lexus NX

The Lexus NX is a conventionally shaped luxury compact crossover. The current model is in its second generation, having debuted for the 2022 model year. This iteration sits between the RX and UX crossovers in the Lexus lineup. The NX shares its platform with the RAV4 and is available with four powertrains. The NX 350 is the most competitively priced and powered trim to the QX55, featuring a 2.4-liter turbocharged inline-four engine. The NX 350h comes with a non-turbocharged 2.5-liter engine enhanced by Toyota’s hybrid system, while the NX 450h+ incorporates a larger battery and motor into the system; with a starting price over $60,000, it falls into a different price range. All NX 350 models have standard AWD.

  • The NX 350 produces slightly more horsepower than the QX55 (275 vs. 268 hp) and also offers greater torque (317 vs. 280 lb-ft).
  • The QX55 offers slightly better city and combined fuel economy (22/28/25 vs. 21/28/24 mpg).
  • The QX55 also features a larger fuel tank (16.0 vs. 14.5 gallons), providing a greater estimated range (400 vs. 348 miles).
  • The QX55 has a significantly wider stance of 7-feet 1-inch compared to 6-feet 1-inch and a longer wheelbase of 9-feet 2-inches compared to 8-feet 9-inches.
  • The QX55 offers a minimum ground clearance of 8.6 inches, which is higher than the NX 350’s 8.1 inches.
  • The QX55 offers second-row passengers noticeably more space in all metrics except headroom.
  • Legroom: 38.7 vs. 36.1 inches
  • Shoulder room: 57.1 vs. 54.0 inches
  • Hip room: 53.8 vs. 52.5 inches
  • Headroom: 36.9 vs. 38.1 inches
  • Although the sloping roof reduces cargo capacity, the QX55 offers a greater maximum payload (1,005 vs. 895 pounds).

2025 Infinit QX55 vs BMW X4

The BMW X6 was one of the first Sport Utility Coupes, based on the X5 SUV. The X4 follows the same concept but is based on the smaller X3 SUV. The first model debuted as a 2014 model, appearing as a taller 3-Series sedan. The current version is the second-generation design, which first appeared in 2018. Consequently, it is based on the previous third-generation X3 rather than the current fourth-generation 2025 X3. Similar to the QX55, most X4 models are powered by 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-fours, featuring standard all-wheel drive and rear liftgates.

  • The X4 has a higher starting MSRP of $55,300 and is therefore price equivalent to the $55,100 QX55 Essential model.
  • The QX55 is notably more powerful than the X4, boasting 268 horsepower compared to 248 and 280 lb-ft of torque versus 258.
  • The QX55 has one more mpg across all EPA estimates (22/28/25 vs. 21/27/24 mpg).
  • The QX55 has a roomier cabin with 166.3 compared to 127.1 cubic feet.
  • Rear passengers benefit from additional space in the QX55, which features increased legroom (38.7 vs. 35.5 inches) and more shoulder room (57.1 vs. 56.0 inches).
  • For enhanced maneuverability, the QX55 features a tighter turning circle (36.4 vs. 38.7 feet).
  • To better handle rough unpaved surfaces or heavily snow-covered roads, the QX55 features a ground clearance of 8.6 inches compared to 8.0 inches.
  • The 15-speaker Bose premium audio system comes standard on the QX55 Essential, while the 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system is offered as an option on the base X4.
  • Other features that are standard on the QX55 Essential model but optional on the X4 include:
    • Surround-view camera system (which INFINITI invented)
    • Adaptive cruise control
    • Lane centering
    • Locking center differential
    • Fog lights (LED)

2025 Infinit QX55 vs Audi Q5

In addition to having similar model names, the Audi Q5 Sportback is designed with the same premise as the QX55, featuring a sleek sloping roof over what is otherwise the Q5 compact crossover model. Like the QX55, the Audi is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine. It has standard AWD, which Audi refers to as “Quattro.” 2025 is the debut year for the second-generation Q5 Sportback.

  • The QX55 starts at a lower MSRP of $50,150 compared to the base Q5 Sportback Quattro S Line Premium 45 TFSI, which has a starting MSRP of $52,200.
  • Despite having engines of similar size and configuration, the QX55 delivers slightly more horsepower (268 vs. 261 hp) and greater peak torque (280 vs. 273 lb-ft).
  • In addition to a bit more power, the QX55 weighs about 100 pounds less (4,070 vs. 4,178 pounds).
  • The fuel mileage for the two models is nearly identical at 22/28/25 compared to 23/28/25 mpg.
  • The QX55 offers more cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats (26.9 vs. 24.7 cubic feet).
  • The QX55 also has more maximum cargo space when the rear seatbacks are folded (54.1 vs. 51.9 cubic feet).
  • For passengers in the rear seat, the QX55 provides more legroom (38.7 vs. 38.0 inches) and more shoulder room (57.1 vs. 56.5 inches).
  • For better maneuverability, the QX55 features a tighter turning circle (36.4 vs. 38.7 feet).
  • The QX55 also provides a little more ground clearance (8.6 vs. 8.2 inches).
  • Standard features on the QX55 that the Q5 Sportback lacks include:
    • HVAC vents for rear passengers
    • Dual front knee airbags
    • Cornering brake control
    • Lane centering
    • Driver position memory for seats and side mirrors
    • Wireless charging station
    • Wi-Fi hotspot
