2025 INFINITI QX80 Earns IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Rating

June 10th, 2025 by

The all-new 2025 INFINITI QX80 has been announced as an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick+, making it one of the safest and best vehicles on the market. The QX80 is joined by the QX60, which was recently given a Top Safety Pick award.

How the IIHS Crash Tests Cars

When the IIHS crash tests a new vehicle, it grades it on a scale of Good, Acceptable, Marginal, and Poor; a car can be awarded as either a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+). To achieve the TSP+ designation, a vehicle has to receive Good ratings in the small overlap front, updated side, and updated moderate overlap front crash tests. From there it also needs to rank as Acceptable or Good in front crash prevention. Its headlights need to be ranked the same. The QX80 achieved a Good rating in all of these categories.

The All-New QX80

For 2025 the QX80 is available in four trim levels: Pure, Luxe, Sensory, and Autograph. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) is standard on the Pure and Luxe, with All-Mode 4WD optional. Sensory and Autograph trims only come in 4WD. The large three-row SUV comes with a special 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that is based on the engine that’s in the GTR, making 450 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque with a nine-speed automatic.

Fuel Mileage and Towing Capacity

The EPA says RWD QX80 models can achieve 16 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway, while 4WD models get one fewer mpg per cycle. Thanks to its new engine and transmission, the flagship INFINITI is able to tow up to 8,500 pounds. This makes it easy for those pulling campers, small horse trailers, and cargo trailers.

A Leader in Safety Standards

As a member of the Top Safety Pick+ club, the QX80 comes standard with some of the most advanced safety equipment on new vehicles. These features include Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Blind Spot Intervention, Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Prevention, and Trailer Blind Spot Warning for towing anything up to 33 feet long. All models come with ProPILOT Assist 1.1 that uses Intelligent Cruise Control and lane keeping systems to keep the vehicle centered and at a safe distance behind the vehicle in front of you. ProPILOT Assist 2.1 is standard on Autograph models and optional on Luxe and Sensory trim levels, allowing drivers to take their hands off the wheel and relax while the INFINITI handles the steering on highway drives.
