2025 QX80 Review

The full-size INFINITI QX80 got a significant overhaul for the 2025 model year, which brought striking new styling, a revised powertrain, more tech, and more robust advanced driver assistance features. The new SUV moved away from its long-running V8 engine in favor of a six-cylinder unit. Still, it retains its strong acceleration and capability, and the updated powertrain is silky smooth in everyday operation.  

Powertrain 

The new twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine makes 450 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque – healthy numbers for any vehicle. That output reaches the rear or all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. While the QX80 won’t be many drag racers’ first choice, it’s got plenty of grunt for everyday driving, and the powertrain helps it deliver up to 8,500 pounds of towing when properly equipped.  

At the same time, the QX80 offers a smooth ride and surprisingly responsive handling for such a large SUV. It’s still a body-on-frame vehicle, though, so it isn’t as refined as some smaller vehicles. However, the QX80’s balanced steering and confidence-inspiring brakes are more than enough to make up for any ride quality challenges. 

Interior 

The 2025 QX80 features an upscale cabin with excellent materials and plenty of space. Synthetic leather upholstery comes standard, but most trims get genuine leather or semi-aniline leather upholstery. Top models come with ventilated and massaging front seats, but heated front seats come standard. The QX80 benefits from parent company Nissan’s excellent seat design, as the front buckets are wide, nicely padded, and wonderfully supportive. The same is true in the second row, where there’s a good amount of legroom with both the bench and captain’s chair options. Third-row passengers enjoy decent head and legroom, but the space is much better reserved for kids or shorter trips. 

Technology 

INFINITI equips 14.3- and 9-inch touchscreens, along with a 14.3-inch digital gauge cluster. The system brings wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, wireless charging, SiriusXM, HD radio, Amazon Alexa functionality, and a Klipsch 14-speaker stereo. Available tech features include a 24-speaker Klipsch stereo, an in-cabin camera system, and a cooler built into the center console. 

The QX80’s screens are bright and crisp, offering enough processing power for a responsive experience. INFINITI shares some of its tech design with Nissan’s infotainment system, which is relatively straightforward and easy to use while driving. While not quite as flashy as some competing systems, the interface’s simplicity makes it less distracting and faster to use. 

Safety 

The 2025 QX80 is too new to have received complete IIHS crash-test results, but it comes with a long list of advanced driver aids for extra peace of mind. INFINITI equips forward collision warnings, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, and much more. The systems work as expected, and the alerts are not frightening, though they are prominent and very noticeable.
