Behind The Scenes Revealing The New QX80 100 Stories Above New York City

The all-new 2025 INFINITI QX80 is one of the most anticipated vehicles of the year, and so the reveal had to be done just right. What better way to show the world the latest iteration of your flagship SUV than by putting it 100 stories high on the roof of a New York City skyscraper? 

A Unique Way To Introduce The New QX80

For the big reveal, hundreds of people worked together over a period of 40 days and 4,300 man hours to disassemble, move, and reassemble the third generation QX80 on the sky deck of The Edge at Hudson Yards, NY. Everything was stripped down to the bare chassis and moved one piece at a time, which meant taking apart the engine, drivetrain, fuel systems, doors, interior, etc. The frame of the vehicle had to be moved sideways into a freight elevator just to get it to the observation deck. There were literally thousands of individual pieces.

So Much Effort That Paid Off

To fit the vehicle in the freight elevator, the team had to cut the roof off and other pieces to fit. Two box trucks filled with all of the QX80 were driven to the loading docks of the building, and one by one, each piece was brought to the roof and hand assembled. INFINITI says that the team did such an amazing job that even the head of design couldn’t tell that the vehicle had been disassembled completely.  Let’s just hope they didn’t have a bag full of unused screws and bolts… 

Why A Sky Deck?

One of the reasons INFINITI decided to take this project on is because The Edge is the highest sky deck in the western hemisphere, and one of its most unique features is that the deck is completely suspended in the air, which gives folks the feeling that they are floating freely above the rest of the world. Part of the floor is glass, allowing guests to look straight down at the city below them. For the adrenaline junkies out there, another unique feature is the ability to climb the side of the building 1,200 feet off the ground.
