The 2025 INFINITI QX80 has a Cool New Audio Feature that Isolates Your Phone Calls

The audio system is one of the most important parts of any new car’s interior and can make or break the ownership experience. Luxury vehicles have long been envelope-pushers, offering the latest and greatest technologies, including innovative speaker and stereo designs. The new INFINITI QX80 is no exception, and some configurations offer an in-seat speaker system that improves audio quality and allows users to isolate phone calls to the front seat. 

INFINITI worked with Nissan, Panasonic, and Klipsch on the audio system, which features 24 speakers and 1,200 watts of power for booming sound quality. While many of those 24 speakers are hidden away or installed behind sleek grilles in the cabin, the QX80 also has a speaker system built into its headrests, which helps the driver isolate and listen to phone calls and other audio.  

Panasonic’s premium audio division provided listeners with “golden ears” to provide feedback on the sound quality. The company’s director of Global Premium Audio, Tom Dunn, said, “A golden ear is really someone with experience and training. They can discern different frequencies and have knowledge of certain music they can rely on to pull out a vocal or low frequency nuance, or emphasize a smooth midrange.” 

The effect on sound quality is tremendous, giving the QX80 deep, robust audio and music. When the driver activates a phone call, the rest of the cabin audio continues while the driver’s seat headrest speaker projects phone audio directly to his or her ears. The system uses a combination of noise cancellation and speaker design to achieve the effect, which uses software and the speakers to read and counteract sounds. 

Available in top trims, the audio system can be controlled with the touchscreen or steering wheel-mounted buttons. The display features two 14.3-inch touchscreens housed behind a single pane of glass. In addition to high-quality audio, it offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. 

While the new interior features make the QX80 a compelling option in its segment, INFINITI made other updates for 2025, including an all-new powertrain. The previous model’s standard V8 is gone, and in its place is a new twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6. It produces 450 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, giving the three-row SUV plenty of power and strong acceleration. It also helps enable an 8,500-pound tow rating when the QX80 is properly equipped.
