Unique and Advanced Powerplant 

One might expect a vehicle the size of the QX60 to have a V6 under the hood, and indeed, the QX60’s predecessor, the JX35 model, had just that. However, the QX60 benefits from Infiniti’s unique variable compression (VC) technology, which you won’t find in any other manufacturer. This technology allows more power from a smaller engine. 

The VC fixes an issue that plagues all other turbocharged engines. High compression is a good way to get more power out of an engine. So is turbocharging. However, high compression and turbocharging don’t mix. Too much compression causes the air-fuel mixture to explode too quickly, resulting in the piston being struck rather than pushed. This is called predestination or knocking; it reduces power and damages your pistons. By forcing more air in each cylinder, turbocharging effectively increases compression. This causes manufacturers of turbocharged engines to be designed with lower compression, which reduces power during lower rpm when the boost from turbocharging is low. 

Nissan/INFINITI developed a unique piston linkage arrangement in the engine that allows a high compression ratio when rpm is low and steadily reduces it as the turbocharger produces more boost. 

The result is you can do much more with a smaller engine. The QX60’s turbocharged VC engine has a displacement of just 2.0 liters, but it produces 268 horsepower with a peak of 286 lb-ft of torque, both of which are more than enough to give the QX60 quick throttle response, not just when the turbocharger is at high boost, but across the rpm spectrum. At the same time, the engine’s small displacement enables an EPA mpg rating of 22 in the city and 28 on the highway, which is greater than you will find from Acura, Lexus, and other competitors. 

6,000-Pound Maximum Towing Capacity 

3-row crossovers are frequently called upon for towing, be it the family boat, a camper, a trailer full of motorsports toys, or any number of things.
